AVB Capsule Recipe
Capsules are the cleanest way to use already vaped bud. No taste, precise per-capsule dosing, and long shelf life. No decarboxylation needed — just grind, fill, and cap.
Prep

Infusion
2 hrs (if oil)
Yield
30–50 capsules (depending on size)

Two Methods
Method A: Powder Capsules
Grind AVB fine, fill capsules directly. Fastest method — 15 minutes from start to finish. Lower bioavailability (~50–60%) since THC still needs to dissolve in digestive fat.
Best for: quick batches, travellers, less mess
Method B: Oil Capsules
Infuse AVB into coconut or MCT oil first, then fill capsules with the strained oil. 2 hour infusion but significantly better absorption (1.5–2× stronger effects per mg).
Best for: consistent dosing, maximum efficiency
Ingredients
- 5–15g already vaped bud (see dosing chart)
- 30–60ml coconut oil or MCT oil
- 1 tsp sunflower lecithin (optional)
- Size 00 or size 0 gel capsules (available at health stores or online)
- Capsule filling tray (optional but makes it much faster)
Capsule Size Chart
| Size | Volume | Powder Fill | Oil Fill | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Size 000 | 1.37ml | ~1.0g | ~1.3ml | Dark/black AVB — need more material per dose |
| Size 00 | 0.95ml | ~0.7g | ~0.9ml | Most common — good for all AVB grades |
| Size 0 | 0.68ml | ~0.5g | ~0.65ml | Blonde/light AVB — higher potency needs less |
| Size 1 | 0.50ml | ~0.35g | ~0.48ml | Micro-dosing or very potent concentrates |
Dosing Estimates (30 Capsules)
Approximate potency using Method B (oil infusion, 85% infusion efficiency). Use BatchCraft for your exact numbers.
| AVB Grade | AVB for 30 caps | Est. mg/cap | Recommended size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blonde (7% THC) | 3g | ~11 mg | Size 00 |
| Light Brown (5%) | 4g | ~9 mg | Size 00 |
| Medium Brown (3%) | 6g | ~10 mg | Size 00 |
| Dark Brown (1.5%) | 10g | ~9 mg | Size 00 |
| Dark/Black (0.5%) | 20g | ~6 mg | Size 000 |
Instructions
Grind fine
Coffee grinder → finest powder possible. More surface area = better extraction and consistent fill.
Optional: Water cure
24–48 hrs in cold water, change 3–5×, dry at 200°F. Eliminates harsh smell from capsules opening.
Choose method
Powder (easy, lower bioavailability) or Oil infusion (2 hrs, 1.5–2× more effective).
If oil: infuse at 160°F
Warm coconut/MCT oil to 160°F, add AVB + lecithin, hold 2 hrs. Strain through coffee filter. Cool to liquid.
Fill capsules
Use a filling tray for 30–50 caps in minutes. Dropper/syringe for oil. Fill to shoulder of capsule body.
Cap and verify
Press tops firmly until they click. Weigh a few to verify consistent fill. Discard any that feel too light.
Label and store
Airtight container, fridge for 3 months, freezer for 6 months. Label: date, potency estimate, grade, size.
Important: Start low
AVB edibles — especially oil capsules — can be deceptively potent. Start with one capsule and wait 2 full hours before taking more. The 1.5–2× bioavailability of oil capsules over powder means they may hit harder than expected.
Calculate Exact mg Per Capsule
Enter your AVB colour, total grams, and capsule count — BatchCraft calculates the mg per capsule and flags if doses are too high.

Do AVB capsules need decarbing?
No. AVB has already been decarboxylated by the vaporizer. The heat converted THCA to THC during vaping. You can put AVB directly into capsules without any additional heating.
What size capsules are best for AVB?
Size 00 capsules hold 0.95ml of oil or about 0.7–0.8g of powder — the most popular choice. Size 0 (0.68ml) is good for lower doses or if you prefer smaller capsules. For very high-volume batches with weak dark AVB, size 000 (1.37ml) gives the most room.
How long do AVB capsules take to kick in?
Like all edibles, AVB capsules typically take 45–90 minutes to onset, peaking at 2–3 hours. Oil-infused capsules may onset slightly faster than dry powder capsules due to better fat-based absorption. Always wait 2 full hours before taking more.
Are oil-filled or powder-filled capsules stronger?
Oil-infused capsules (Method B) generally deliver better bioavailability because fat-soluble cannabinoids absorb much more readily when already dissolved in oil. The difference can be significant — many users report oil capsules feel 1.5–2× stronger than the same amount in powder capsules.
How do I calculate how many mg are in each AVB capsule?
Use the BatchCraft AVB calculator: enter your AVB colour (which estimates THC%), your total AVB weight, and number of capsules. It calculates estimated mg per capsule accounting for infusion efficiency and decarb status.
