Cannabis Honey (Cannahoney) Recipe

★★★★★ 4.8134 reviews2 hrs 10 min~1 cupSlow cooker method

Cannabis honey — or cannahoney — is one of the most versatile infusions you can make. Sweet, shelf-stable, and easy to dose: stir it into tea, drizzle on toast, use it in baking, or take it by the spoon. Two ingredients, one jar, two hours.

Ingredients & Equipment

Ingredients

  • 3.5g (1/8 oz) decarboxylated cannabis (ground)
  • 1 cup (340g) raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower lecithin (optional, improves bioavailability)
  • Cheesecloth for straining
  • Mason jar or glass container with lid
  • Slow cooker or double boiler

Temperature Rules

  • Target: 160–180°F (71–82°C)
  • Never exceed 200°F — kills THC and honey enzymes
  • Slow cooker LOW setting is ideal
  • Use a thermometer to verify
  • Decarb must be done BEFORE infusing

Instructions

01

Decarboxylate your cannabis first: spread ground cannabis on parchment paper, bake at 240°F (115°C) for 40 minutes. This converts THCA to active THC. Do not skip this step.

02

Add honey to a mason jar. Add decarbed cannabis and lecithin if using. Stir together. Seal the jar loosely (don't fully seal — trapped steam can cause pressure issues).

03

Place jar in a slow cooker. Fill slow cooker with enough water to come 3/4 up the jar. Set slow cooker to LOW.

04

Infuse on LOW for 2 hours, stirring honey every 30 minutes. Keep temperature between 160–180°F (71–82°C). Never exceed 200°F — heat destroys THC and degrades honey.

05

Remove jar. While still warm and liquid, strain through cheesecloth into a clean jar, pressing the plant material to extract all honey. Compost the spent cannabis.

06

Seal and store. Cannabis honey keeps at room temperature for 1–2 months, or refrigerate for up to 6 months. Use BatchCraft to calculate mg per teaspoon before dosing.

8 Ways to Use Cannabis Honey

Tea & coffee

Stir into warm (not hot) beverages. Add milk for better absorption.

Toast & bread

Direct topping. Easy to control amount per slice.

Baking

Replace regular honey 1:1 in baked goods. Reduces dry oven exposure.

Salad dressing

Blend with vinegar and olive oil for a cannabis-infused vinaigrette.

Glazes & marinades

Brush on chicken or salmon before baking — heat partially degrades THC.

Yogurt & granola

Perfect drizzle for breakfast bowls. Easy portion control.

Face mask

Mix with CBD honey for topical application (no psychoactive effect).

Sublingual (direct)

Hold under tongue for 60 seconds for faster onset than swallowing.

Calculate Your Honey Potency

A teaspoon of your honey could be 5mg or 50mg depending on your batch. Use BatchCraft to calculate exact mg per teaspoon before your first taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make cannabis honey?

Decarboxylate your cannabis (240°F for 40 minutes), then combine with raw honey in a mason jar and infuse via slow cooker or double boiler at 160–180°F for 2 hours. Strain through cheesecloth and store. The result is a potent, sweet cannabis carrier that works in tea, on toast, or in baking.

Does cannabis honey need to be decarboxylated?

Yes. Without decarboxylation, honey will contain THCA — which has no psychoactive effect when eaten. You must decarb your cannabis before infusing. Bake at 240°F (115°C) for 40 minutes on parchment paper before adding to honey.

What temperature should I use for cannabis honey?

Keep temperature between 160–180°F (71–82°C). Above 200°F (93°C), THC begins to degrade significantly and honey's beneficial enzymes are destroyed. A slow cooker on LOW is ideal — never use direct high heat or boiling water.

How long does cannabis honey last?

Cannabis honey stored in an airtight jar at room temperature stays potent for 1–2 months. Refrigeration extends shelf life to 6 months. It may crystallize in the fridge — this is normal, just warm gently in warm water to reliquefy.

How do I dose cannabis honey?

Use the BatchCraft calculator with your cannabis weight and THC% to find total mg in your batch. Divide by the volume of honey to get mg per teaspoon. A typical honey spoon holds about 7ml. Start with 1/4 teaspoon (about 1.75ml) until you know your batch potency.

Can I use cannabis honey in hot tea?

Yes, but let your tea cool to below 140°F before adding the honey — both to preserve beneficial honey enzymes and to avoid scorching your tongue. THC is fat-soluble; adding a splash of whole milk or coconut milk to your tea improves cannabinoid absorption.
